Il progetto

Orgins Islamecom

The word Islamecom is a name derived through the words Islam /ɪsˈlɑːm/ and comparatio /koŋpɑˈrɑːtsɪo/, a Latin term that among the many different meanings also means “comparison”, “comparison”.

This project wants to compare the Islamic religion with the Christian one, aiming to expose the authentic doctrinal nature of Islam: on the one hand the Koran and the Mohammed’s message, on the other hand the Bible and the Holy Jesus’ message.

What prompted us

Why Islamecom ?

In an age of post-modernism and relativism, the project was born with the purpose of bringing clarity in resolving controversies.

As a matter of fact, recent years have seen an increase in movements within the evangelical world, where liberal and relativist ideas are considered acceptable and plausible.

Therefore, the Church needs to be formed and to remain vigilant in order to respond to the new syncretistic tendency, which brings ideas that aim to weaken the Gospel in the name of an alleged dialogue, a false tolerance and a questionable human love. One of these currents is precisely aimed at reviewing the approach to Islam and its theological, social and cultural implications.

Among its aims, Islamecom proposes to transmit training for the defense of the faith to all Christians involved, so that they are able to relate in the proper way to the Islamic person.

Islamecom is also an apolitical project, however, able to interface and dialogue, whenever possible, with the Institutions and Competent Authorities.

Behind the Scenes

Islamecom is a project of  Italian Ministries.

After having registered more than 300 students studying the Islamic phenomenon throughout Italy according to a Christian missiological perspective, Francesco Maggio, already founder of META Onlus (the first Italian Evangelical Mission operating among people of Islamic faith) launched the Islamecom Project with a precise vision of what is understood as an intercultural approach. He is joined by Riccardo Ricci as national coordinator.

Evangelical Christians of international provenance specializing in Islamism operate within the project. By studying the Islamic phenomenon, the project aims to transmit correct theological information in a peaceful and respectful manner towards the Muslim person.

Although the project does not fall within a single evangelical denomination, it incarnates a spirit of collaboration for the common interest.

Principally, Islamecom refers to the Christian public. However, even the laity who are able to orient themselves in this vast and complex field will be able to find interest in it.

Our Doctrinal Statements

INTERFAITH RELATIONS

With regard to interreligious relationships, considering love of neighbour as an integral part of our faith (1), we believe that it is a specific obligation of every reformed Christian to present the Message of Hope in Christ (2) in its integrity with sincerity and without subterfuge, with gentleness and attention but without undermining any part of it or amending its principles and content to make it more tolerable to our interlocutors. We believe that the denial of this possibility in the name of respect for others is in reality a violation of integrity towards our neighbour and, in the ultimate analysis, humanism disguised as Christianity. We believe that the denial of this possibility in the name of respect for others is actually a lack of integrity towards our neighbor and, ultimately, humanism disguised as Christianity Love wants the good of the other and, while avoiding any compulsion or constraint, bringing the message of Christ the Son of God, who died on the cross for our salvation, risen and living, the only one through the LORD God and man, is the equivalent of bringing God’s love to souls.

BIASED GOSPEL

We also think that there is a danger of shifting from a merely “proclamative” Gospel, without the necessary social and practical help, to a socialized Gospel that limits or declines to communicate the Good News out of respect for religious and cultural differences (multiculturalism). By considering both aspects of the Christian message as necessary, we believe that, as Jesus did, we are called to bring our words along with our example of life and gestures of support to those who are suffering, the sick, the needy, the marginalized (3).

INTERDENOMINATIONAL UNITY

As far as the relations between evangelical denominations are concerned, while we consider as fundamental the spiritual value of unity in Christ (4), the one and only true Head of His Church (5), we consider misleading the idea that a worldwide unity of Christianity can be achieved through political, economic, human means. We believe that the unity intended by Christ is above all spiritual and transcends the boundaries of human organizations, which can never completely and perfectly represent the Church of Christ on earth.

HONESTY AND FRANKNESS
  • By affirming the importance of the pursuit of unity in Christ we declare as useless the human efforts of those who try to arrive at this unity by denying or undermining the differences, even fundamental ones, that exist in the approach of considering the one faith, the church, salvation, conversion, biblical truth. In particular we declare:

    • That Christ impels us to proclaim His gospel of Salvation which is only by His means extended to all men of all times, regardless of social, political or religious condition, because every man needs to be saved by the LORD, in Christ.
    • That denying the possibility of evangelizing certain groups and ethnic groups of people is the equivalent of denying religious freedom and salvation for anyone who believes.
    • That however much the evangelistic message may be theoretically adapted in form in order to better communicate it to our interlocutor, not to water it down, or to modify it in substance or to hide parts of it because it is contrary to the word of God.
    • That Christ’s perfect sacrifice on the cross to obtain the eternal life of anyone who believes in His sacrifice is sufficient and exclusive and that, as Christ commands, every Christian must preach this absolute truth in love toward his neighbor.
    • That the church is Christ’s alone and no evangelical religious organization or economic empires can claim the right to lead or represent it exclusively, and that it is real, present and active through the Holy Spirit working in the life of every true disciple of Christ who is part of it.
    • That Truth is first and foremost Jesus Christ, and can never be completely or infallibly determined or possessed by any individual or organization.
    • That unity in Christ must be sought with the help of the Holy Spirit, on the basis of the Truth as transmitted through the Word of God, and not on the basis of supposed human wisdom, compromise, or through negotiations between religious leaders of evangelical missionary organizations.
    • That conversion to Christ, unlike conversion to other religions, does not concern the passage to a church, or to a humanistic organization, but concerns a total turning upheaval of old sinful values, of the worldview, of the certainties and hope of each individual by the Holy Spirit, and that for this reason true conversion to Christ (new birth (6), metanoia) cannot in any way be compared to other “conversions” in the common sense of the term, the fruit of reasoning or intellectual adherence.
    • That attempting to put all religions on the same level, or to subdue the fact that all their other “gods of the earth are nothing more than mere idols”, is tantamount to affirming that there is no absolute Christian truth, a principle which, as regenerated Christians, we reject on the basis of the word of Christ himself: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except through me” (7) and “You will have no other GOD but Me”.
    • That for Christians to affirm certainty of faith and the existence of an absolute truth (in the Holy Bible) is not mental closure or arrogance, as some intellectual evangelicals recently reproached us, but true faith (8).
    • That the Gospel is by its very essence a free message of love from the LORD, God one and triune, and for this reason it can in no way be transmitted through coercion, obligation, coercion or deception.
    • That the Christian mandate to go and make disciples of all peoples is not optional or exclusive for some Christians, but is for all those who want to be disciples of Christ (9).
